Mat’s Story
From an early age, I was uncommonly focused on planning for the future. My mother loves to regale us with her account of my days in the first grade, when instead of spending my lunch money on an extra slice of pizza, I proudly hid it in my closet, “saving it” for later. Looking back, that younger version of myself was embracing the same values that guide me today: discipline, foresight, and responsibility.
The incredible example my parents set in appreciating the value of simple joys, time outdoors, community, and family traditions, has instilled in me that true success is not only financial.

Family has always been at the heart of who I am and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue these traditions with my incredible wife and two daughters, who continue to shape my version of success every day. As a family we enjoy spending time active time together, trying everything from hockey, skiing, and snowmobiling in the winters to boating, swimming, and fishing in the summers.
Staying connected to the community is also important to me. Coaching hockey, my first passion, gives me the opportunity to help young players develop their skills through discipline and hard work and teach them to respect their ‘hockey family’ teammates, with the ultimate goal of having fun.
With Thomson Financial Partners I draw on those early life lessons, defined values, and my ten years of experience in the banking industry, to help people bring clarity and confidence to their own financial lives and empower them to pursue the futures they envision for their families.
Whether at work, at home, or on the ice, the strategies I employ are the same strategies I follow myself and hope to pass on to my children: prepare today, always look ahead with purpose, and stay grounded in what matters most.
